昨夜、妹のエリサは泣き止みませんでした。
ゆっくりと、ほとんど声にならないほど小さな声で泣き始ました。まるで子猫のような声。少しずつ、その音は大きくなり、ついには赤ちゃんの声ではなく消防車のような声になってしまいました。

お父さんはエリサを背負って家中を歩き回り、お母さんは星や虹や蝶がいっぱいの美しい物語を彼女に聞かせました。けれどもエリサは目をぎゅっと閉じて泣き続けました。
