ある夜、エイモスの部屋の鏡に大きくて丸い月がいました。青い光を放ち、とてもきれいです。
「明日、ぼくは、お月さまと一緒に遊ぼう！　お月さまは、ぼくの鏡にいるのだから」
そう思ってエイモスはまた、眠りにつきました。
けれども朝起きたら、鏡の中にお月さまはいません。
「お月さまは、まだ遠くに行ってないよね。探しに行こう！」
エイモスは商店街に行って、お店の人にお月さまを見かけなかったか、聞いてまわりはじめました。

次々に現れるお店の人とエイモスのやりとりが面白い絵本です。
お月さまを見かけた？
と、たずねて、月のかわりに違うものを色々ともらっていきます。
クリママスプレゼントを意図して描かれた絵本だそうですが、いつ読んでも楽しそうな絵本ですね。

1948年にアメリカで出版され、長く読み継がれていた絵本が改めて出版された絵本です。
