これはオーリーの物語。
彼のおねえさんのお話ではありませんよ。

オーリーのおねえさんは、いつもぶつぶつとグチっていました。
彼女はいつも自分が正しいと思っています。
オーリーは静かにしています。

彼の家族はときどき小さなお出かけをします。
電車に乗っていると、ママは、幸せなひと時ね、と言います。
パパもうなずくのです。
おねえさんは、「アイスクリームがあるといいのに」と不満を言います。
そして窓の外を見て「牛がいるわ。つまらない」と、またぐずります。
オーリーが窓の外を見ると、外にいたのは牛ではなく、水牛でした。角もあるし、どんなおねえさんでも押しつぶすひずめも。

オーリーとお姉さんが見ている風景は違うようです。
学校でも先生が示すものと、オーリーが見ているものは違うようです。
さて、オーリーは目が悪いのでしょうか。メガネが必要なのでしょうか。

みんなが見ているものが、自分も見えていないといけないのか。
それとも自分が見ているものを信じていくのが正しいのでしょうか。

オランダの作家が描く、ちょっと考えさせられる（けどかわいい）絵本です。
