犬のトリュフは農場で生まれました。
まだ小さかった時、父親に連れられて、大きなお屋敷に出向きました。そこで農場主のビビアンおじさんと面会しました。
それからトリュフは農場でネズミ追い出し係に任命されたのです。

彼は農場で一生懸命働きました。
唯一手を焼いたのは猫でした。追いかけることはできましたが、捕まえることはできませんでした。

それから年月が経ち、トリュフは歳を取りました。
ビビアンおじさんも亡くなり、彼は農場の仕事を引退することにしました。
トリュフはかねてより、紳士になりたいと思っていました。
家を買い、村の仕立て屋で背広を仕立てます。

それから穏やかな日々が続くはずでした。
けれども彼の行くところには、いつも猫の姿があったのです……。

農場で仕事をしていた頃にトリュフを困らせていた猫。
不思議な縁で、トリュフと猫はつき合いが続いていきます。
