遠い遠い西のはて。
そこには川と森に寄りそうように小さな町がありました。
森には目と耳があるんだよ、と町の人々はいいます。森にはゴーストがいる、と。

レイナは町で唯一ボートを持っている女性でした。
毎日、町の人々はレイナのボートで川をわたります。そして運べる限りの木々をきりだしました。そして彼らは向こう岸からランタンをふってレイナに合図を送り、町に戻るのです。

レイナはボートに乗る人々とあまり話しませんでした。
恥ずかしくて特に話せない若い男性がいました。
彼の名前はオーレン。
