昔々、空に対して大きな好奇心を持っていた男がいました。その好奇心は空そのものと同じくらい大きなものでした。
男は常に頭上の物事を見つめ、毎日を上を見上げて過ごしていました。
けれども人々はいつも忙しくて振り返る暇もありませんでした。

男は、まだ空想にふけったまま、どうすれば他の人たちにも自分が見ているものを見てもらうことができるか考えていました。
近づいて話しかけ、顔を上げるよう説得しようとしたが、彼らはいつも忙しくて耳を傾けてくれませんでした。
彼らの無関心を目の当たりにして、男の目は疑念で曇りました。
日を追うごとに、空を眺めることはますます苦痛に、そして重要ではなくなっていきました。好奇心は萎え、男は結局、他の皆と同じことをするようになりました。
ある日、男は大きな穴を見つけます……。
