ユルの父親は、ずっと画家になることを夢見ていました。
けれども、大人になると生活のために働かなければならなくなり、代わりに布地店を開きました。
ところが、ユルが絵を描くのが大好きだと知った彼は、彼女を画家にしようと決意しました……。
絵を描くことを深く愛する少女ユル。
父親はかつて画家を夢見たものの生活のために布地店を営むこととなりましたが、娘の才能を見抜いて彼女を画家に育てようと尽力します。
ユルが8歳の頃、父親は有名な画家たちを招いて指導を受けさせ、ついに自画像への挑戦を勧めます。二人は画材店を巡り、特別な高級リネン「yu-lu-ma（雨露麻 rain-dew linen）」のキャンバスを選びます。
この布はユルの名前と同じ響きを持ち、彼女はぴったりだと感じました。
けれどもこのキャンバスは、描かれた絵が翌朝に台無しになるという不思議な性質を秘めていました。
何度も繰り返される失敗、両親の反応、そしてユルの諦めない挑戦を通じて、キャンバスとの「対話」していきます。
中国の児童文学作家・曹文軒（Cao Wenxuan）が原作を執筆し、韓国の絵本作家スージー・リーがイラストを担当しました。
本書は2021年のボローニャ・ラガッツィ賞フィクション部門特別賞受賞しました。
