ナンタケット島に住む捕鯨船長エイハブは、白い巨大なクジラ「モビー・ディック」を探し続けます。
知らせを聞くたびに船ピークォッド号で出港し、山を登り、沈没船をよじ登り、海を渡り、船室にこもって日々を過ごし、世界の果てまで旅しますが、なかなか見つかりません。探しすぎて何を探しているのかさえ忘れかけ、「海は謎だ」とつぶやくほどです。
海の怪物、危険なエイ、不思議に温かい氷山……執着や目標に囚われすぎて目の前の大切なものを見失うというテーマを、優しくユーモラスに描いています。

マルソルのイラストは、コラージュ、鉛筆・インク、厚く重ねたアクリル絵具などを組み合わせた混合技法で、質感豊かです。
海藻のようなテクスチャや油っぽい感じ、細部の描き込みが特徴で、大人も見入ってしまう迫力があります
