韓国・釜山出身のイラストレーター、ジヒ・パクのデビュー作です。
釜山で絵画を、スペイン・グラナダで美術を学んだ彼女は釜山の海辺のアトリエで制作を続けています。
物語の最後の舞台となる浜辺は、実際に彼女が制作の拠点とする釜山の海がモデルになっている。

この絵本の特徴はすべてのイラストが、廃棄された段ボール箱の上に、色鉛筆・絵の具・インク・コラージュを組み合わせて直接描かれていることです。
ゴミになるはずだった素材が、そのまま一枚の絵として生まれ変わる――この「素材そのものがメッセージである」というアプローチは、物語が静かに伝える環境への眼差しと呼応している。

少年とクマが過ごすひとときの温もりが読み終えたあとに残る絵本です。
