物語は母娘の家にオオカミがやってくるところから始まります。
オオカミは怒りを撒き散らすことも、ぷう！と息を吹いて家を壊してしまうこともありません。
オオカミは猫のように背を丸め、母親の心を取り込んでしまいます。けれども娘は、オオカミの目は冷たく、歯が鋭く見えることを感じていました。

オオカミは母子家庭の家にやってきた悪い男を象徴しています。
「さんびきのこぶた」がつくる家と同じように、彼女たちの家は、オオカミから守ってくれるのでしょうか。

どちらにしてもこの絵本は衝撃的です。
子供に読ませるべきではない、と、批判する人がいるかもしれません。
けれどもこうゆう家庭が現実としてあり、無関心でいてはいけない、と感じるのです。
