1973年9月11日、正午。チリの首都サンティアゴにある大統領宮殿が空爆され、民主的に選ばれた政権は一夜にして崩壊しました。
そこから始まった17年間に及ぶ軍事独裁政権は、人々の自由と民主主義を奪い去り、深い沈黙と痛みの時代をこの国にもたらしました。

1990年にようやく民主主義が戻り、国家による調査が進められたとき、世界はそのあまりの凄惨さに言葉を失います。犠牲者の数は3,000人以上。そしてその暗闇の中に、あまりにも小さく、儚い事実が刻まれていました。殺害されたり、行方不明となった人々の中に、14歳未満の子どもたちが「34人」含まれていたのです。
