昔々、リトルイタリーの街灯を手動で点灯していた頃のこと。
ペッペはマルベリー ストリートの共同住宅に住んでいました。彼の家は貧しかったので、ペッペは家を助けるために仕事が必要だと思っていました。
あちこちに声をかけ、断られていましたが、やっとのことで街灯を点灯させる仕事に就くことができました。
けれど彼の父親は快く思いませんでした。
点灯夫が「アメリカで最高の仕事」となるよう、ペッペは仕事を頑張るのでした。
