目を開けると、夜が明けていて、凍てつくような冷たい風が、ぼくの顔を吹き抜けていきました。
車は橋の上で止まっており、ドアはすべて開いています。
ブルースは外にいて、ガードレールにもたれかかり、頭を後ろに向け、目を閉じています。ぼくは、少し待ってから外に出ました。
一晩、車にいたので、足がピリピリしました。
外は光が明るく、空気は乾燥しており、透き通った空はドームのようにしっかりと見えます。

「息をして」ブルースが低い声で言いました。 「さあ、息をして。ぼくたちは、山の麓にいるよ」

ハミングが聞こえました。それは前後に反響しました。ケーブルカーが現れ、長い金属ケーブルに沿ってゆっくりと滑走します。人々は山に登っていました。ぼくは手を振ります。もうすぐ、あそこに行く。

少年はブルースの導きで、スキー板を担ぎながら山へと向かいます。
山には氷河が流れ、大きなクレバスも開いていました。
ブルースと少年は、ロープやハーネスなどの装備しながら、慎重に降りていくのでした。
