むかしむかし。
とても豊かで強い国の王さまがおりました。
彼の王国は、森をこえて海まで広がっていました。
彼の宮殿は、美しい彫像が並び、たくさんの大砲で守られていました。
王さまはなんでも持っていました。
船以外は！

王さまの家来は国中から大工を集めました。
「王のために、偉大な船を建造せよ！」
「我々は、船を作りましょう。我々は、木々を切り倒しましょう」
大工たちは頭を下げました。
けれども船は十分な大きさではありませんでした。
王さまの家来は、大工たちに、さらに大きな船を建造するように命令をしました。
大工たちは思うのです。
「これ、大きすぎね？」
「ありえない！　王さま万歳！」

王さまの船は大きくなりましたが、何かが欠けていました。
王さまは次々と船に望むままのものを付け加えていきます。
巨大な船は、果たして無事に出航できたのでしょうか。
