レプロンさんは、明るく輝く毛皮と愛らしい長い耳を持つ、とてもハンサムなウサギです。森に住んでいて、春には月明かりの下で跳ね回ります。毛皮は冬には白くなり、夏と秋には金色になります。葉っぱと区別がつかないので、誰にもわかりません。

レプロンさんは、暖かくてたくさんの子供、孫、ひ孫がいます。
そうそう野菜が大好きなんです。畑で採れた野菜を使って、最高のスープを作ります。
彼は年に一度、秋の初日に、子供、孫、ひ孫の手伝いを受けながら、スープ作りに行きます。

野菜をすべて鍋に入れ、食べられる野生のハーブを振りかけます。コンロに火をつける前に、蛇口から鍋に水を注ぎます。水が沸騰したらすぐに塩をひとつまみ入れ、それから椅子に向かい昼寝をするのです。

レプロンさんのスープがなぜこんなにおいしいのか、説明できる人は誰もいません。
彼のスープはすぐに有名になりました。カタツムリがそれを味わい、次にアナグマ、キツネ、そしてクモと大きな緑のバッタが続きました。次はシカ、そしてレプロンさんの素晴らしいスープを味わうために遠くからやって来た人がそれを味わいました。郵便配達員とパン職人もそれを味わいました。

世界中の人々がレプロンさんのスープを味わいに来ます。やがて彼は自分のスープ工場をつくりました。けれどもレプロンさんの人生はそこから少しづつ変わっていきました……。
