レイラは物をなくし続けています。
彼女の不注意ではなくて、向こう側の世界に消えているのです。
ささやき声と夢の中で聞いたことのある、奇妙な生き物でいっぱいの絡み合った場所に消えているのではないかと思っています。
ママはよく「レイラはいつも物をなくすでしょ」とこごとを言います。「どうして鍵を3回もなくしたの？」
「あの子たちはここにいたんだよ！」レイラはママに言います。

レイラが住んでいる村は果樹があり、小さな赤い三角形の家があり、たくさんの花があり、真ん中に川が流れています。
ここではすべてが整然としていて美しい。
まるで、おばあちゃんの刺繍のステッチのようです。

けれど世界のすぐ後ろには別の風景があります。
結び目や垂れ下がった糸、奇妙な動物でいっぱいの奇妙な世界。そこは夢の中でしか訪れることのできない場所。

レイラはその世界のことを夢によく見る。
五本足のオオヤマネコ。二本足で立って踊っている目が輝いているネズミ、夏至祭のときに踊るあの世の住民たち。
レイラは穴をふさぐために、地図、大きな針、丈夫な糸、そしてハサミを持って、穴を探しに来ました……

Loose Threadsはもともと、パレスチナ博物館が制作した「日常の品々で語るパレスチナ美術史」プロジェクトのために考案されたもので、パレスチナ文化の伝統的な刺繍にインスピレーションを得ています。

イソル・ミセンタは1972年、アルゼンチンのブエノスアイレス生まれ。テキストとイメージの対話を通して物語を語ります。
2003年にブラティスラバ・ゴールデンアップル賞を受賞、2006年と2007年にはハンス・クリスチャン・アンデルセン賞のファイナリストに選ばれ、2013年には児童書の世界最高峰の賞であるアストリッド・リンドグレーン記念賞（ALMA）を受賞しました。
