昔々、三人のおそろしいとうぞくがいました。
大きな黒いマントと高い黒い帽子の下に隠れて歩きまわっていました。
ひとり目はらっぱ銃、ふたり目はコショウ噴霧器、そして、三人目は巨大な赤い斧を持っていました
彼らは夜の闇のなか獲物を探しながらあるいていました……。

とうぞくたちは夜中に馬車を襲い、金、宝石、お金、時計、結婚指輪、宝石でいっぱいのトランクと箱をうばっていったのです。
けれどもある夜、ティファニーという名前の孤児をのせた馬車をおそったあとから、三人の生き方が変わっていくのです。

定番の絵本なので、読んだことがある方も多いのではないでしょうか。
英語版ではどのように表現をされているのかも気になりますね。
